Tuesday Tips ~ Vinegar for the Dryer

With all the handy tips out there on the web on how to ‘Go Green’ I have been working on weeding through some of them.

I tried the ‘Honey Challenge’ over at Crunchy Betty, and now I am hooked on finding simpler ways to live with simpler ingredients.

A big change for me {almost bigger than using honey on my face} is using Vinegar with Citrus Essential Oil when drying laundry.  I spritz the wet load with 15 to 20 spritz’ and then start the dryer as normal.

When I first thought of getting rid of my Downy and Dryer Sheets I had a mini-melt down.  I l-o-v-e some fresh, clean sheets to snuggle in.

After ‘toughing’ it for a month… I have found I don’t even miss the Downy in my sheets.  Amazing, huh?

The way Mr. SD’s work clothes smell soooooo fresh coming out of the dryer is wonderful, and I know that I am using less chemicals and ingredients than I was.  All for a healthier life for my kiddos.  That is a pretty good feeling.

Roxan ~ I have been using two cups of vinegar to a tablespoon of the Orange Oil. But… the orange oil I purchased is not a very high quality, so you may want to go with less. I can smell the orange oil when spraying the laundry in the dryer, but not when the clothes come out. ~Kimberlee

Does this keep the clothes from having static cling like dryer sheets do?

Toni ~ It is funny that you should ask this. I did use dryer sheets after using the vinegar spray for awhile. And found the clothes to have more static with the dryer sheets than with the vinegar spray. When taking a load out of the dryer sometimes I have to shake the static ‘off’ some of the clothes, but I haven’t had a problem with the static either. ~ Kimberlee

What a great hint! Vinegar is truly amazing. I used to have serious issues getting my laundry soap scent to match up with my dryer sheet scent. So glad that ‘s not a problem anymore! Anyway, I’d love it if you would consider sharing this post on my blog’s new link-up. I love helpful tips that save money and the environment. Is it vinegar with water or pure vinegar you are spritzing on the wet clothes? Probably couldn’t use it on dryer balls?
