WIP ~ August 24th, 2011

Here are my Farmer’s Wife Quilt blocks for this week;

46. Hill and Valley ~ I can totally see using this one block to create an entire quilt of ‘stars’, with this block surrounding a center block.  Not a huge fan of these fabrics, but they do work with my overall color scheme.

56. Maple Leaf ~ What a fun block!  This one went together much easier than I had thought it would.  Maybe know I will have the confidence to make a fall table runner with ‘leaves’ in different colors.

And my epic failure of this week… {a definite redo is in the future for this block}

Here is the redone block ~

Not perfect, but definilty better than my first attempt, LOL!

My mail-man brought these two cute Micheal Miller fabrics for a custom order I am doing for a customer:

These are going to make supr-cute Stay-Put Towels!

In other news…

I have some Sugar Pop fabric coming to help me decide on a final layout of my HSTs quilt-top.  Hopefully I will have a couple options to post shortly for help making the ‘final’ layout decision.

Kimberlee, Thank you for visiting!

Organizing My FWQAL Pieces and Blocks

I am working on my Farmer’s Wife Quilt blocks in sets of three;

- plan and cut out the pieces for three blocks;

- sew three blocks;

- scan and upload the pictures of the three blocks;

- start on the next three blocks;

To keep the pieces I cut organized between cutting and sewing I am placing all pieces for one block in a zip-lock bag with a tag with which block the pieces are for written in pencil.  Then I tuck the bag of pieces  in the book with the piecing diagram for that block.

This has really helped to keep me on the right track when I am trying to quickly put together a block during nap time, or when Ms. E is playing quietly.  As an added bonus… by having the blocks already cut, I am not having either scissors or a rotary cutter out while Ms. E is ‘assisting’.

Once the block is pieced, and after I used my printer/scanner to scan a picture of the block into my computer, I place the block back in the book next to the piecing directions.  Pretty sure I am going to have to come up with another way to keep the finsihed blocks as my book keeps getting fuller and fuller.

PS ~ This is my favorite block so far. The writing you see above the block number and title on the page is the date, temperature, and current weather.  One of the gals in the Flickr quilt-a-long group mentioned she was doing this, and I thought it was a fun idea.

I am also filling in the square with the block number on the tracking sheet I printed that one of the group members created.

And there you have it.

See ya’all next time!

Puppy dilemma… {P2 Quilt-Along}

Here we are at the end of the Patchwork Squared Quilt-Along, and I have no idea which fabric I want to use to join the blocks together. I am in quit a pickle here, and could use your opinions! My dilemma is…

I ‘think’ I want to use the light puppy paw print fabric for the sashing and border {click here to see the final quilt layout on P2}.  But… do I use the wrong side of the fabric as I have been doing in the blocks…

… or, maybe I should use the right side of the fabric to create more contrast between the sashings and blocks.

Here are all the Puppy Blocks laid out on the pawprint fabric.

What do you think?  Do you agree with either of the above choices, or should I use one of the other fabrics?  I would love to hear your thoughts on these fabric choices!

~ About Me ~

I'm Kimberlee, the owner/creater of 'The Spunky Diva'. Here is a little about me... In addition to my love of blogging I adore all crafts, sewing, quilting, improving my non-existent cooking skills, and playing with my two girls. We have a 'collection' of animals around the place to keep us busy; two 'huge' dogs, a cat, kittens, several horses, and assorted wildlife. We live east of Austin, Texas, in the middle of farm country. Here at 'The Spunky Diva' blog I get to share daily life moments, fun crafts, sewing and quilting progress/finishes, and brag about my 'Babies'. Thank you for visiting and sharing some of your day with me!
