Patriotic Jelly Roll Wall Hanging {Quilt Idea}

Here is an idea that popped into my head after seeing this neat flag quilt on Pinterest from A Diary of a Quilter.

Using an assortment of Jelly Roll strips from any fabric collection with a Red, White, and Blue combo of fabrics will lend this wall hanging a wonderful scrappy feel.  While using precuts will make it a fast and easy project to complete.

Finished size would be 35″ by 23″, and it can hang either with the 35″ across the top or by the 23″ side.  Which makes it versatile to fit wherever you want to hang it.  Here are the details as assumed by The Electric Quilt Program.

Since I am planning on using 2.5″ strips for the Red and White Strips, and also for piecing the Stars section, I figure that you will need 4 to 6 – 2.5″ by WOF {width of fabric} strips of Blue; 4 – 2.5″ by WOF strips of Red; and 6 – 2.5″ by WOF strips of White for the top.  For the backing and binding a yard should be sufficient of any blue fabric.  Use the same blue fabric for the binding and the line around the Stars section to add a cohesive feeling to this scrappy project.

Piecing the Red and White strips from 6″ sections of jelly roll strips will add even more scrappy interest to this fun and funky wall hanging.

Here are a few of the Moda fabric collections I think would create a wonderful wall hanging for the upcoming Patriotic holidays.

WIP ~ July 8th, 2011

Officially finished = quilted, washed and in use!

Ms. E’s Fresh Flowers quilt.

I used embroidery floss I had on-hand to tie this quilt.  I had plans to do some machine quilting, and then decided finishing was more important.  214 knots later… Ms. E is in L-O-V-E!

This quilt has already gone through the wash several times since she is carrying it around the house with her.  Amazingly the knots have stayed in.  I was really unsure if they would or ‘knot’.  It is very neat that they are staying in so well.

Quilt Stats:

~ Works In Progress ~

Postage Stamp Quilt; on hold and fabrics being used now for the Rockin Robin Quilt Along.

Rockin Robin Quilt Along; fabrics choosen {see Postage Stamp Quilt link above}

Sugar Pop HSTs; 40 charms pieced with gray, cut, and ready to press and trim.

‘Lovely’ Quilt for me; 2 of 12 cabin blocks done, next cabin block laid out and ready to sew.

Ms. V’s Fresh Flowers Quilt; have plan, next step… start cutting.

This is going to be a quilt as I go project.  So I need to cut 15 squares of batting, backing and top fabric to get this quilt started.

Skill Builder Quilt Along; selected fabrics, need to piece together the first three blocks.

This is going to be a fun Christmas quilt, for ‘I’m don’t know yet’ {LOL!}

Summer Sampler Series; picked fabrics to get started with, but will be adding more to balance out the ‘values’; waiting for first post on the 11th {not behind on this one… yet} ~ This will be donated as part of the 100 Quilts for Kids campaign.

Ready, Set, Snow Snowball Tablerunner; have a plan, need to start piecing

Puppy Quilt; still need to baste and quilt

Fresh Flowers Liberated Wedding Rings Tablerunner; quilted, need to get the iron out and get the binding completed.

And that should wrap up my WIP update.  I was hoping to make more progress on this list over the weekend, but I got several Kitchen Valances completed for Mom instead.  Since these had been on the back burner for a while, it feels really good to have these off my plate.  Thank you Lord for my serger!!!  It certainly makes creating curtains ‘sew’ much faster.

Baby Diva’s Quilt Pattern ~ Which One?

I am in another pickle, and could use your help.

I want to make Baby Diva an unmatching/matching quilt to go along with Ms. Diva’s Fresh Flowers quilt.  I have three Fresh Flowers charm packs, and am trying to decide on a quilt pattern.  My goal is to get this done, and not have another UFO taking up space.  So I have been looking at simple designs that make an impact because of the fun and bright patterns in the Fresh Flowers Line.  There are so many great designs/tutorials on the web that the options are pretty much endless.

Here are the four front runners; {first three I found on Moda’s Bakeshop, and the fourth is from the Fat Quarter Shop}

{Tiffany Diamonds; design by Jera Brandvig at Quilting In The Rain}

{Ritzy Cracker Quilt; design by Mary Lane Brown of The Tulip Patch}

{Sunday Best; design by Cherri of Cherry House Quilts}

{design from the Fat Quarter Shop}

Which is your top pick?  Vote for your favorite in the poll in the right column.  Leave a comment and/or link if you have another quilt pattern I should consider.  Thanks!

Moda May Grand Finale Giveaway at Everything Etsy

Everything Etsy teamed up with The Fat Quarter shop to host giveaways for the month of May.  Making May officially Moda May.

Now for the final giveaway they are giving away a $125 Gift Certificate to The Fat Quarter Shop.  What could you buy with $125???

Here is what I would grab…

{Moda Fresh Flowers Bundle}

Did you see that one coming, LOL?  Then I could make my Liberated Wedding Ring blocks into a full size quilt.  That would be totally awesome dude!

Or… I might mix it up and just buy a couple yards from this moda collection, then some christmas fabric… maybe one of these…

I have to make Stockings this year.  Last Christmas, as much as I looked, I couldn’t find our stockings.  Which sounds like a good reason to buy fabric and make more.  Which it is, but… it is true.  I Swear!

What would you pick with $125 to spend?
