Fresh Flowers Table Runner ~ FINISHED!

I used a self-binding miter corner technique from Eleanor Burns Quilt-In-A-Day show, but can’t find an on-line video for her version.  It worked very well, and I love how the corners look finished.  Not perfect by any means, but they are done, LOL!

I am ‘sew’ excited to have this finished!!!!

Not ‘sew’ much sewing…

Mr. SD and I took a lazy weekend… I didn’t get the laundry done until late Sunday, didn’t clean the house till late Sunday, and we didn’t do anything outside {zip, zilch, nada}.  That laziness extended to my sewing goals for the weekend.

I did pull out Miss Diva’s Fresh Flowers Quilt for some more hand knotting.  There is still about one third of that quilt that needs more knots.  I do have Baby Diva’s Fresh Flowers Quilt planned, but haven’t started cutting into the yardage I recently purchased from the Fat Quarter Shop.  Just what I need, LOL, another WIP {Work In Progress}.

I did find a place to use the blocks I created using the Liberated Wedding Rings tutorial at Bloomin’ Workshop.  They are going to become a table runner for the girls’ dresser to help tie in the Fresh Flowers fabrics from their quilts.  So… at least I found a ‘home’ for one of my current homeless projects, LOL!

I got that layered and ready to baste.  I am planning on machine quilting the runner with my new walking foot.  I got all the paper removed from the backs of the strip pieced pieces.  Boy, I am never using printer paper again.  That was a pain in the you-know-where.  I definitely see why people would buy dissolving printable paper to use for paper piecing.

Here is the quilt ‘sandwich’…

I even have enough left over bating to make another table runner of the same size.  The batting I used is the leftovers from Ms. Diva’s Fresh Flowers Quilt.  Definitely worthy buying a full two yards.

And here is my ‘sandwich’ rolled up for safe keeping until my next spare moment to baste it.  If I break projects into steps, I seem to get more of them done, since I am working for short periods of time while the kiddos are either napping, eating, or playing peacefully.  This is one UFO {Unfinished Object} that I can’t wait to finish and put to use in the girls room.

Do you have UFOs that you are working to finish up this summer?  Link up at the Finish It Up!Flickr group, hosted by Fashioned by Meg.   I am working on getting my list sorted out, and posted with links for all my ‘pending’ projects.  This is a fun way of figuring out when/how much you really have going on in the sewing room.

Friday Answers Post ~ 6/3/2011

Hello Summer!  Big Bro’s first week of summer vacation started Saturday when he arrived in Austin.  Unfortunately he sprained his ankle on the last day of school, and is spending the first two weeks on crutches.  Oops!  Ms. Diva is totally glued to his side {photos in progress} and loves lounging with him, and getting him to ‘color’ with her.

Baby Diva had her 4-month check-up and is in the progress of digging into her formulad-down cereal.  She is in love with the texture, and is a very happy baby while eating/sucking it down.

I have been playing around with my B-day gift, Photoshop Elements.  There is a lot to learn, and there is so much that you can do.  I think this is my new crush… sorry fabric, but you have been temporarily replaced, LOL!  My Wordless Wednesday post was two collages I made using a pre-template in PSE.  I might be a tad bit biased, but I think these are the two cutest kiddos ever.  Playing with scrap book elements is even more fun, but it takes a lot of work.  I think I need a lesson on how to use keywords {send me a link if you know of some good Photoshop tutorials, thanx!}.

Friday Fill-ins with Janet ~

1. Hey! Jude.  ~  I couldn’t help myself.  Can you tell I am missing Idol already, LOL?

2. Just a kernel of truth.

3. Eat dirt and die!  ~  We have been watching a lot of war movies.  The dvr was a magical thing this past Memorial Day weekend.  It can record all the war movies AMC had playing; Dirty Dozen, Longest Day {at least that one has John Wayne}, Pearl Harbor, etc.

4. Malcolm in the middle.  ~ or ~ Meet in the middle; from the country song by Diamond Rio, one of my favorite songs.  {PS – I never watched Malcolm in the Middle, but that is certainly one that pops into my head when I saw that blank.}

5. First thing to note: is… I love spaghetti, spend way to much time on the computer, have an ocd condition when it comes to organizing my fabric scraps, suffer from procrastination syndrome, hate housework, hate working out more… anything else?  Yup, I love my veggies.

6. I love my fabric to distraction, and am constantly looking for new patterns I can try out for quilts.  Not that I have any intention of starting any of them soon, LOL!  However, I did grab two of the ArtBin 12×12 satchels at Joanns, and I am putting two long term scrappy quilt projects in them with the directions so I can work on them as I go over the next 10, 15, 20 years.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to hopefully finally watching some So You Think You Can Dance {SYTYCD}, tomorrow my plans include doing something with my Liberated Wedding blocks {see below} and doing lots of laundry, and Sunday, I want to play around more with DigiScrapping!   Here is a Studio for Paper Scrapping that is very drool worthy.

Five Question Friday at My Little Life ~

1. If you had to choose, how would you prefer to choose to spend money…on landscaping or a pool?  I’d be going with a pool.  It is already in the 90′s here, and we haven’t gotten our Costco deluxe above ground set-up, and am dying to go for a swim.  However, if I had that kinda money… I would probably be spending it on a house.  Just sayin.

2. (Scott likes to get things stirred up…) Death penalty, yay or nay?
Not sure.  I just wrapped up Now I Walk on Death Row: A Wall Street Finance Lawyer Stumbles into the Arms of A Loving God, and he view on the Death Penalty is very interesting.  Did you know how much it costs to kill someone versus having them live out their life on Death Row?  It is much more expensive to kill them.  I have always thought is was more expensive to let them life their life out in jail, but that is not the case.

Another point he makes is that the Law of the Land is that Abortion is legal.  Does that mean you support it?  Just because the Death Penalty is the Law of the Land, does that make it morally right when God says that justice is his?

Just a few things to think about on that topic.  PS, I will be posting my full review of this book on Sunday {June 5th, 2011}, but will tell you right now that I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a better understanding of Death Row.

3. What’s the worst thing your kid has gotten into when you turned your back/ blogged/ showered/ blinked?  So far nothing to bad.  Of course both are mine are so young that they don’t get left alone at all {both under 2 years old}.

4. How often do you REALLY go to the dentist?  Pleading the 5th on this one.

5. What is your favorite animal (doesn’t have to be a pet-type animal)?  Horse, hands-down.  They don’t lick, they can carry you, and they pop outside.

That’s it for the questions.  Here are a few progress shots of my Liberated Wedding Ring Paper Piecing Experiment.

Have a fantastic weekend!  I have several post for tomorrow with some great crafty giveaways.  Posts start at 8:30 a.m.
