Weigh~In Wed {10/19/2011}

Weigh-In Wednesday

This was a week of gigantic leaps… I would say for mankind, but most of mankind knows about everything I started doing this week, LOL!

Step 1} Start eating real oatmeal for breakfast.

I learned that quick oats are ‘stripped’ of some of their nutritional value.  So you loose a lot of the benefits of eating oats for breakfast.  Instant oatmeal packets have sugar added making them even less of a healthy choice.  Who ‘da thunk that?!?

To keep the mornings fast I fixed up a week’s worth of oatmeal baggies; 1/2 cup of oats with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.  Just cook in microwave with 1 cup of water for four minutes.  Then add fruit and a swig of milk, and your breakfast is ready.

Technically, you don’t need the milk, but I found that the oatmeal was a sticky mess and that adding a small swig of milk cut the stickiness a lot.

Another side note ~ Regular oats only take a couple of minutes in the microwave.  Quick Oats take just 30 seconds less!  This according to the packages {I have both ‘kinds’ of oats in my pantry right now}.  Now I wonder who came up with ‘Quick Oats’.   Those are a definite marketing success.

According to an article in Oxygen fitness magazine, eating oats is supposed to help with losing the belly fat.  Definitely my trouble spot currently.  So oats are my new best friend.  I even got a healthier bread that has whole oats as the first ingredient.  An important step in my weight loss journey to get completed.

Step 2} Drink some nasty ‘healthy’ drink.

I opted for Jillian Michaels detox mix:

60 ounces water

1 tablespoon sugar-free, non-concentrate Cranberry Juice

1 dandelion root tea bag

2 tablespoons lemon

Dandelion Root is supposed to help your liver, fresh lemon juice is supposed to be really helpful with everything/anything, and the cranberry is good for your urinary parts.  Drink this mix for 7 days and lose up to 5 pounds.

I didn’t lose any weight drinking this, but it did help motivate me to not make those bad eating choices.  I mean… who wants to drink something that tastes like a healthy drink, and then undue everything it is supposed to be helping your body with by eating junk?

Not me.

So… for the past week my eating habits have been pretty darn stellar.  I did, however, drink the cranberry juice separate from the detox tea.  Cranberry is as bitter as I had heard it was, but after the first couple days I didn’t really notice it.  Kinda like using Listerine mouth wash.  That first time will send you over the moon, but it gets better after that.  I also drank half a cup of the cranberry juice instead of only a tablespoon.  And by drink I mean that I slammed that 1/2 cup down like it was a shot and I wanted to win the drinking contest.  Yuck.

Step 3} Learn what plyometrics are.

Check out this video by Jamie Eason if you have never heard of this form of torture.  I kinda wish I was still in the dark on this one.  My thigh muscles still haven’t forgiven me for unearthing this ‘new’ take on excercise.

I did two circuits on Saturday morning while watching Fresh Beat Band.  Both kiddos ‘helped’, and now my thighs aren’t very interested in speaking with me, LOL!  Monday, I ran through the Jillian Michael’s workout, Shred-it with Kettlebells.  I used a water bottle and definitely still felt the burn.  Ouch.  When did I get so unfit?  Then this morning, Wednesday, I did some more plyometrics.  Didn’t get very far, but I gave it a go.

My goal for this next week is to get that outdoor cardio in, and to continue making good eating choices.

Totals for this week are:

Started 170 lbs ~ Ended 170 lbs

Three workouts completed

I am feeling very energized about the steps I took this week, and I am looking forward to seeing what progress I make over the coming week.

Wednesday Weigh~In: Check In {10/12/2011}

 Weigh-In Wednesday

I am feeling positively green about my lack of weight loss.  I had all these excuses {don’t we all?}.  And now I am heavier than just after having Ms. V and Ms. E.

Yuck.  I just feel gross.  Especially when I see those that started their weight loss journey at the same time {mid~January} showing off their gorgeous new bods.  Double yuck.

One of my downfalls in eating healthy/better is ‘Happy Hour’ at Sonic Drive-In when drinks are 50%.  Literally there is a Sonic under five minutes from me, and when 2:00 p.m. rolls around… it is soooooooooooo easy to hope into the car to grab an afternoon slush.  Last Thursday I decided to get a regular size rather than my normal Route 44 size.  I spent less than a dollar on this drink, and as I was drinking my refreshing Watermelon Sprite Slush I started wondering… How many calories did I save myself by ordering the regular/large size rather than that ginormous Route 44 size?

Answer:

Both sizes have way more calories than I EVER imagined!!!!

Regular/Large has 460 calories!

Route 44 has 630 calories!

Talk about feeling gross about my ‘diet’ choices.  This is definitely a moment where I can hear Dr. Oz say that neither choice is a good one.  Guess that means I need to stop attending ‘Happy Hour’ no matter how easy it seems to be.

I feel like those on Biggest Loser; Was it worth eating that?

I truly don’t feel like it was now.

I am going to use this feeling as my motivation to get serious.  Setting a unrealistic goal that I can’t possibly achieve, losing the rest of my weight by New Years; 25 pounds.

170 lbs – 25 lbs = 145 lbs

Fitting in cardio is the hardest for me to do.  My goal for this week is to work on toning exercises while being a toddler toy, and focusing on what I am putting in my mouth.

I am looking for a jogging stroller to make adding in the cardio easier on the family schedule.  I hate putting others out, especially hubby after he has worked a hard day.  By adding a way to take along one of the kiddos with me, it will make it ‘easier’ for me to get the cardio in.

Currently as of this morning I am 168.5 lbs after really watching what I have been eating since the beginning of this week.  Sunday’s weigh-in was 171 lbs.

Do you have a goal you want to reach by the end of 2011?

Honey Challenge ~ Days 6 thru 10

Ten days and my face feels awesome!!!!

It trully feels like I have found this super expensive moisturizer.  The little pimples that popped up on Day Two have become fragemtns of the past, and all of my skin feels super.  None of it feels dried, spongy, or otherwise out of sorts with the rest of my face.

After ten days {with just four to go} I am definitly thinking this is one beauty tip I will be taking forward with me in life.  You just can’t beat it!

My face washing routine has turned into; grabbing some honey in the kitchen, rubbing it in/on the face, letting it sit while I put away dishes {after washing hands off, LOL} or doing some quick computer work {also after washing honey of hands}, and then strolling the bathroom to rinse of my face and pat it dry with a towel.  Definitly not rocket science or hard work to produce this lovely, soft skin I now have.

Honey Challenge {details} ~ Day One, Day Two, Days 3 thru 5

Honey Challenge ~ Days 3, 4, and 5

Day 3 ~

Okay… I admit it… I missed Day 3.

It happened when I was planning on washing my face, but I got distracted.  By a two foot bandit called, Ms. E.  She loves following me into the bathroom {isn’t the bathroom the most fascinating place?} and brushing her teeth while I brush mine or am washing my face.

Well this time, she decided she wanted to sit on the toilet, and she tinkled!  Hooray!  Of course this has only been repeated once since then, but it is a stepping stone in the path to being toilet trained.

Day 4 ~

I washed my face in the morning {since I missed Day 3}, and loved the after effects.  But… I do have those pesky little zits I get around my mouth popping up.  Not sure if this is because of the honey, or just due to my ‘monthly’ cycle.  However, the most painful zit did not hurt at all after my facial wash, and also popped easily later in the afternoon.

Yes, I am one of those terrible people that can’t resist popping their zits.  I figure with the amount of freckles I have no one is ever going to notice a zit scar here or there.

Day 5 ~

Missed again…  this time the distraction was the compressor going out on our Central AC.  Definitely not cool in 100+ degree weather.

One myth/question dispelled; will washing with honey effect how I sweat?

Nope, my face is sweating just fine, thank you.

So, my two week challenge will most likely be more of a four week challenge if I keep missing days, but I figure at least I am trying to keep it up.  I am planning to also get back into posting my weight loss {or lack there of} updates next week.  Here is the link to Crunchy Betty’s Honey Challenge for more info if you are interested.

The year is more than half over, and I am needing to get my butt in gear to make my year-end goals.

See ya’ later ~

Honey Challenge; Day 1, Day 2

Honey Challenge ~ Day Two

Day Two ~ Honey Challenge

My face feels ultra soft after it’s second washing.  Almost as soft as Ms. V’s chubby check… on her face.  Today I just rubbed the honey around, and then splashed my face with water.  I feel like some of it is still in my eyebrows and a spot under my chin that I missed.  But, it isn’t sticky when I touch those spots.  So maybe it is ‘phantom’  stickiness?  Don’t know, but I willdo a better job rinsing tomorrow.

Off to rinse my face again, then back to watch the Falling Skies finale.

Honey Challenge; Day One

Honey Challenge ~ Day One

Day One ~ Not nearly as sticky as I expected.  Left the honey on a couple minutes before taking my evening shower.  The honey just rinsed off in the shower!  Easy, peasy.  My face feels very clean and a little on the dry side.

Nice not to worry about getting soap in my super-sensitive eyes.  Can’t wait for Day Two!

PS ~ Not sure if my honey is raw and unfiltered, but figured I would use what I have on hand and not wait to get some {which could take ‘forever’, LOL!}.
