Five Question Friday {Nov. 18th}

Next week is Thanksgiving!!!!!!!

I love Thanksgiving.  Well… I love all family get togethers, but Thanksgiving is always special for me since I like the focus of thankfulness during the holiday.  We all have so much to be thankful for, but sometimes it is easy to loose site of that during the hustle and bustle every day.  Thanksgiving brings it all back into focus.

Enough about rushing to next week.  I have several sewing project I hope to wrap up over the weekend.  I also completed 1 of the 3 cardio workouts I have to get done by next Wednesday to reach my goal posted on Wednesday this week.  I am gonna knock these extra baby pounds off, and I am not waiting for the holidays to be over either!

Here are the Friday Questions from My Little Life:

1) Do you have a go to song that always puts you in a good mood?  I adore Third Day songs, and my favorite one is their remake of Creed.  A great reminder of the essence of my faith, and what is really important.

2) Area you a real Christmas tree kinda person or do you go with a real ‘fake’ one?  I am a fakie!!!  The tree we just ‘retired’ was in the family for over 25 years.  Now we are using the tree I bought after moving to Texas about 5 years ago.  I love that it is there in the attic, just waiting to come down the day after Thanksgiving.  It is also one less thing to spend money during the Holidays.

3) What are you thankful for?  For family, to be living in a country where I can live out my faith without fear of {to much} persecution, that my girls are strong and healthy… even though they are a super big handful, LOL!

As to what I am thankful for… I could probably just continue on and on.  To put it in a nutshell, I try to be thankful and look at the blessings in my life daily.  It trully helps keep everything in perspective.  Which certainly seems to be the theme of this post, LOL!

4) Which fashion fad from the past do you wish you could wear today?  Is this question for real?

I am so fashionly challenged, that anything I say will be ‘wrong’.  I love being comfy, and normally am wearing jeans and a t-shirt.  That is about as fashionista as I get… ever.

5) Do you wait until the “low fuel” list comes on before you fill up the gas tank?  Normally, yes I am.  Sometimes I will fill up at a 1/4 tank, but normally I wait until the last possible minute.  It seems like a waste of time to stop and fill up when I still have some gas left in the tank.

The only time this doesn’t seem to apply is during road trips.  Then the bladder or cravings for food rule, and I am much better above filling up at 1/4 tank or so.

Can’t wait to read your answers!!!  Link-up so your post can be checked out by others, and if you have a craft post from this week you can link it up at Finish it Friday which is over at Stitching by Starlight this week.

Friday Fun {10/28/2011}

We have a cold front here in Central Texas.  For the first time since last winter I put a jacket on this morning to go outside and feed the horses.  Definitely nippy outside.

Ms. E still did not see the need to put on a jacket to go over to Grandma’s.  Her answer to the question {even after being outside to help feed the dogs}was “noooooooooooooooo”.  It is so cute!  I know I shouldn’t laugh at her automatic no, but it truly is the cutest no ever.  PS ~ she did wear a jacket over to Grandma’s.

My fingers are crossed that this cold front brings some rain.  We are still in the middle of a very bad drought season, and could use any precipitation the good Lord blesses us with.

Goals for the Weekend:

Finish up Sugar Pop HSTs quilt ~ just need to make the binding, and add a label for Baby P.

Get some sleep in ~ Ms. V. has been teething like crazy, and was up all last night.  Nap for momma is a definite must this weekend.

Move Hay ~ with this cold front we need to move some fresh hay into the horse pastures.

Work in Garden ~ not sure this one is going to happen due to weather.

Five Questions with My Little Life

1) Silk, Cotton, or Flannel Sheets?  High count cotton all the way, baby.  If it were colder here I would prefer flannel, but it stays pretty warm so I prefer cotton at this point.  Costco has some very reasonalby priced 600 thread count sheets.  Now I am spoiled to anything less.  It just feels scratchy to me, yuck.

 2) What time zone are you in?  Central standard time.  I live outside of Austin, Texas… Live Music Capital of the World.

3) What is your favorite part of the holiday season?  I love decorating, time with family while decorating, making candies with family, family, family, family.  The family traditions are so much fun.

4) What is your favorite ‘wintery’ drink?  I love peppermint mochas!  The peppermint creamers is already being stocked at the grocery store.  I really need to find a good recipe so I can make it all year round.

My other fav is Egg Nog.  And a tradition I have on Black Friday is to get a peppermint mocha from Starbucks.  My once a year splurge on coffee, LOL!

5) In your opinion, what is the worst job in the world?  Trash collecting.  I don’t like stinky stuff.  I don’t like cleaning stinky stuff.  But… Wouldn’t you know it… I clean up stinky stuff every single day, LOL!

Friday Fun ~ Oct. 14th 2011

We are prepping for Ms. E’s 2nd b-day that is happening on Sunday.  She is getting just a ‘few’ good things, LOL!  Here is to hoping that she doesn’t get to bent out of shape when Ms. V wants to play with some of them to.

I can’t wait!!!!  I think I am worse than her.  Which isn’t hard at this point, because she has no idea what a b-day is or that Sunday is going to be a big, happy day for her.

Last Sunday she received her gift from Mr. SD’s mom since she is headed up to Nebraska to visit the newest addition, Ms. P.  The ‘spiralin’ water park’ was a hit… and we haven’t even added the water yet, LOL.  Ms. E and Ms. V have been playing with it at Grandma’s during the week in the kitchen.  Ms. E is obsessed with the spiral that the balls ride down.  She is also very sure there are five balls, and keeps track of them at all times.  Ms. V may play with a red ball, but never a blue one, LOL!

On a mommy note ~ This is a fantastic toy if your little one likes any kind of ball toy.  You can see the balls as they go down the spiral which adds to the fun.  It is a good size for both the 9-month-old and the 2-year-old.  Of course both of my kiddos are on the tall size for their age so keep that in mind.  It has turned out to be a great indoor toy since the balls stay in the ‘moat’ that the water would be in.  Putting it together was easy and quick for the most part.  However, the spiral has eight screws that hold the two halves together {we only used five screws}.

Next week I will share the scoop on the party and the rest of the gifts Ms. E receives.  Plus, I will share how we created her thank you cards.  She will wear her new bandanna top for her party.

Onto Five Question Friday with My Little Life:

1. Do you prefer your ice cream in a boal or on a cone?  I am a bowl kinda gal.  You probably eat less if it is in a cone, but what is the fun in that?

2. What are three things you love the smell of?  Freshly bathed babies, fresh baked cookies, and fresh laundry dried outside.   Guess the theme here is ‘fresh’ smells, LOL.

3. Giftcards, yes/no {In regards to gift giving…}  Definite yes in my book.  I love getting that perfect gift for someone, but if I don’t find it or am not sure what to get I would much rather get them a gift card than a ‘bad’ gift.  No sweaters from me.

4. What sports did you play in highschool if any, and do you still play them?  I didn’t play any highschool sports.  I did compete in three day eventing, which I don’t currently do.  But, I still have horses, but no time to ride with both girls being so small.  Hoping that will change as this year goes by.

5. Were you in band in highschool?  What instrument did you play?  I was in the orchestra… actually I made the cut to be in the ‘philharmonic’ {strings and band instruments}.  I played the violin, and still do at church.

Friday Fun ~ Oct. 7th, 2011

Raise your hand if you found a new T.V. series to watch.  {raises hand}   We seem to have found three new ones {yikes}!  On the plus side, it looks like several we watched last year are not getting another season {shucks}.

I am watching Ringer.  I wanted to see it since it had Sarah Michelle Gellar as the lead.  After the first episode I was totally hooked on all the twists and turns.  It will be interesting to see how they ‘get out’ of some of the conundrums presented in just that first episode, not to mention the ones that have presented themselves in the following episodes.

We have watched some of Terra Nova.  Not a big fan of this one yet.  Very striking scenery, but I am just not getting the ‘must watch’ vibe from this one.  Ms. E loves the dinosaurs, but it can be scary so we aren’t letting her watch it.  She has started to realize things can be scary in real life so we are really starting to look at things on T.V. from her viewpoint.  So, as much as she likes snuggle time with Daddy we are putting her to bed when we are going to watch this show.  {I watch Ringer while they are napping for the same reason, FYI.}

Biggist Loser started up again.  Love, Love, Love Bob Harper!  Especially crazy, physco morning Bob.  Which I can say since he isn’t in myface at 5 o’early in the morning, LOL!  I do miss having Julien, but… I got a workout video from her collection, and… I actually watched part of the Level I workout this morning with my coffee.

Note ~ I didn’t work out this morning, just watched {in terror}her workout.  Actually it doesn’t look ‘to bad’, so more about that on next week’s Weightloss Update.  That is going to be a soul baring post.  Spoiler ~ I haven’t been to good on the exercise or watching what I eat.  So… moving on from that thought…

Today’s Five Question Friday hosted by My Little Life

 1. What is your go to comfort food or sweet?  Anything chocolate for a sweet, and then pasta is my comfort food.

2. What is the most romantic place you’ve ever been to?  I went to a really neat place on Long Island that was dreamy.  Really neat rooms and a fantastic dining experience.  It was with my Grandpa, but I still think it would be a great ‘Romantic’ place to go.

 3. What is your favorite thing about fall/Halloween?  The colors.  I just love the fall oranges and browns.  We don’t get to see that much here in Texas, but we have planted a couple Sunset Maples so we will get to see the Fall colors outside, not just with our decorations, LOL.

4. How would you spend 24 hours alone?  Frantically sewing.  Seriously… it is ‘sew’ hard to get some projects done when you know you are going to have to put it up in a just a few minutes once the little one notices you are doing something interesting.
I would also throw a nap in there, and do some holiday crafts that invlove glue and glitter.
5. Does you husband bring you flowers? Are you the bring-me-flowers type of girl?  Nope he doesn’t, yes I would like them.  Enough said on that one.
What are your answers?  Can’t wait to find out!

Friday Fun ~ Sept. 30th

Heaven on earth is a place we must choose,

Not a place to be found.

Where did September go????

Here we are at the last Friday in September, and Austin, Texas is still running over 90 degrees each day with no rain.  Supposedly this was the first week of fall.  I certainly didn’t see it around here.  Most of the trees with leaves are losing them due to the sustained heat.  So, I am not sure how many of them will be living next year.  That is something I am finding heartbreaking.

There was a huge pond {we call ‘em tanks here in the Promised Land} that had a family of turtle’s living in it.  I had almost hit a turtle several times on the road near the pasture their pond is in.  As the pond/tank dried up, you could see how many turtles lived there.  In the last week it has completely dried up.  Saw one turtle crossing the road several miles away from the tank.

So I am hoping they found another pond.  Our pond/tank has been dried up since the middle of August.  Or else I probably would have tried to bring them home with me.  But… most of the ponds I know of are dried up…  This draught is devastating in so many ways.

On to uplifting news;

We have a new family member in Nebraska.  She was born a week before the doctors were hoping, but Ms. P is very healthy.  Mom, baby and three older sisters are adapting well.  I am hoping to wrap up quilting and binding the Sugar Pop HSTs quilt to send with Mr. SD’s mom when she goes to visit.

Yesterday a new baby girl was born to my 4-H buddy up in WA State.  She is so freakin’ precious.  For not going to ‘ever’ have babies {that went for both of us as teenagers} we seem to have made some adorable fresh squesies, LOL!

Ms. V is now 9~months old and crawling everywhere.  She tries to walk but isn’t quite there yet.  Last week she started saying; blah-blah-blah and ma-ma-ma-ma.  She has also started clapping her hands, or at least flapping them rapidly and sometimes clapping.  She had her first real banana this week.  I think we can certainly add fresh banana to Ms. V’s favorites list.

Ms. E will be having her 2nd birthday in two weeks!  Talking about where did September go… I remember like yesterday being preggers with Ms. E.  She survived her first skinned knee, and is now doing what I would consider ‘officially’ running.  More than just scrunching up her shoulders, swinging her arms, and walking faster, LOL!  She is a coloring fiend, and is creating many-many squiggly masterpieces.  She even colored in the lines of the carrot on the hand-out for Sunday School last week.  Yes, my baby has moved from the nursery to the 2-3s Sunday School class.  Ms. E is very good about saying ‘thank you’, ‘uh-oh’, and ‘ow’.

She also is having full conversations about everything and nothing {complete gibberish if you ask me, LOL}.  I am very scarred of the time when she is talking in intelligible words.  This is one girl that is going to have a though and opinion on everything.  Won’t she fit in just fine with the rest of us?

On the mommy front:  My baby bro is coming to visit, and I am super excited.  Now that is something I never thought I would say growing up… that I would actually want to see and visit with him.  He is wrapping up his sixth deployment with the Corps, and we are still waiting to find out what his next ‘job’ will be.  He may be back in the Golden State or might be on the East Coast.  Only time will tell.  Hurry up and wait is the military’s way of handling everything.

The plan is to get the fall decorations out this weekend.  I have gotten some great ideas off of Pinterest that I can’t wait to see how ‘bad’ they look in my space.  Have you been on Pinterest yet?  If you need an invite I still have a couple to give out.  Just send me an e-mail and I will hook you up.

As for around the house on the cleaning front… I found a great {new-to-me} blog, The Perfect Pantry, and may actually be inspired enough to attack my mom-eating pantry.  I did qualify that statement with a ‘may’, so we will see how long it take for inspiration to become action.

I also scored a new release from a favorite sci-fi author of mine from Amazon using giftcards from Swagbucks {see other things I have scored using Swagbucks here}.  Still have read past the first couple chapters.  Maybe the kiddos will sleep in or go to bed early and I can get in some serious reading time.  I think that is what I miss most about pre-kiddo life.  The ability and the luxury to just read a book all night.  Sure I could do it now, but I would still be getting up between 6 am and 6:30 am with Ms. V, LOL!

Here is this week’s Five Questions from My Little Life;

 1. Do you apologize to your kids if you’re wrong?  Yes.  I want them to treat others fairly.  And you have to model ‘correct’ behavior to them, so… If I am wrong I apologize, just like I would expect them to.

Of course, at this point in life I am pretty sure Ms. V has no idea I am apologizing.

2. Do you have a class ring, letterman’s jacket, or similar obscenely priced high school “must have”?  I would have loved a Letterman’s Jacket, but who had the money?  I was spending my money on horse shows and riding lessons.

But I do have my State Fair 4-H jacket.  That is something that will always be in my closet.

3. If you could be one age for the rest of your life, what age would you choose?  I think I would like to be 26.  As long as I get to keep my kiddos.  I am not being very successful in getting my body back into pre-baby shape.

So, 26 would be before the babies.  Plus, my metabolizim was awesome back then.  Need I say more?

4. What is your favorite (unused) baby name?  Not sure how to answer that one.  I really liked the idea of using our {Mr. SD’s and Mine} mom’s names, but that is his mom’s name already.  That didn’t work out, LOL!

I really liked the idea of Julius Donald in honor of my Grandpa and Mr. SD’s Dad.  JD for short.  But that one had two drawbacks… 1} JD could also be short for Jack Daniels, and 2} we didn’t have a boy.  But, it is still my favorite unused name.

5. If you could make your child like something what would it be?  We really haven’t gotten to that point.  Ms. E is incrediably easy going about new stuff.  I am sure this will change for both girls as they get older.

My other thought on this, is that it is our likes and dislikes that make us unique.  I might wish they liked something, but I don’t know that I would want to change them.  Just like I may wish Mr. SD liked/disliked something, but would I really want him to change?  I don’t think so.

And there you have it, a recap of another month in my paradise.  Have a fabulous weekend!
Kimberlee, Thank you for visiting!

Five Question Friday ~ 9/16/2011

1. If you had a weekly newspaper column, what would you name it?

Oh geez… A newspaper column?

Reality check… no one would pay me to write anything, and would most likely refuse to print my column even if they weren’t paying me, LOL!

Something about being just a tad on the right-wing, gun toting, relious side of life would most likely preclude me from writing anything on a weekly basis.

Therefore I am exempted from figuring out an answer for this question. :)

2. Who is your mentor/inspiration?

Another toughie.  I look up to many of my relatives as wanting to me more ‘like’ them.  I think you can learn something from everyone, more from some than others.

3. What is your wake up beverage of choice?

Liquid creamer {preferably Peppermint Mocha} with a little coffee.

4. Would you wear your mom’s clothes?

I do wear my mom’s clothes.  I have nothing against hand-me-downs for my kiddos or me.

Hey… anything to stretch the buck around here.  Plus, I am normally helping my mom clothes shop, so if I don’t want to wear them what kind of advice am I giving her when she buys them?

5. When you were a kid, did you put posters on your wall? If so, what were they of?

I had a poster I loved so much I didn’t put it on my wall.  I even still have it.  {but can’t find a picture of it on-line}.

It is of this big, white, olympic dude.  I even wanted to have his baby….

{click here to see his ‘fan’ page}

… of course, it was my mare that was going to actually ‘have’ the baby, LOL!

So there you have it, this week’s five questions answered.  See ‘ya!

5QF ~ Sept. 9th, 2011

Fire Update: The Bastrop Wildfires continue to move away from us {Thank you Lord}, and we are continuing to collect donations {clothing, household items, toiletry items} and taking them directly to the Bastrop collection/distribution center.  It is amazing to see the sheer number of vechiles of those volunteering and displaced by the fires.

HEB, a local grocery chain, has been amazing in their generosity of items and food for the volunteers/firefighters, and displaced.  However, this does mean that our HEB in Elgin has several completly unstocked aisles and Mr. SD is out of his Breathright Strips.  Oops.

Moda/United Notions is organizing a pillowcase drive.  And I will post more info on a current quilt drive once I track down the links for that one.

This post about the Bastrop Wildfires has more info and links on how you can help the victims of this disaster.

While they don’t know yet what caused this/these massive fires they suspect a cigarette is most likely to blame.  If you smoke… please, please, please keep your butts in the car.

1. What ringtone do you have on your cell phone?

Just a standard one.  I have put special ones created from songs before, but I tend to not here those.  So I use an obnoxious one that no one can miss.  Makes me a favorite at church if I forget to turn it off, LOL!

2. What is your favorite memory from this summer?

Ms. E and Ms. V interacting.  I was worried {what parent isn’t?} that with kiddo no. 2 that kiddo no. 1 would have issues with said no. 2.

But, Ms. E just adores her younger sister.  Ms. V tries so hard to keep up with her.  I can see lots of fun coming over the next years.

3. Paper books or eBooks?

My preference is paper, but that is changing to eBooks because they are so darn convenient.  Just hope on the Internet, find what you want, download {maybe even for free}, and start reading.

Don’t have to drive to the store, find they don’t have what you want, go about a few more errands, ‘wander’ over to the next book store, etc.

Much more convenient.  Not sure that I like the convenience though.  I think that there are a lot of ways we are forgetting how to do things the hard way, or the more time consuming way.  Easy is as easy does.

4. If you could have one home upgrade what would it be and why?

Dishwasher.  Why?  Because we don’t currently have one at all! We have an ‘effeciency’ kitchen.  Which would be fine.  Except we now have two small kiddos {three when Big Bro visits}, and Mr. SD likes to cook.

Which means I end up doing lots of dishes… by hand…

5.  When was your first serious boyfriend/girlfriend?

My 20′s.  I spent my teenage ‘boy crazy’ years staying crazy about horses.  And horses take up lots of time.  I think my parents were happy to have that sport/obsession continue through my teenage years, LOL!

Have a safe weekend.  We are celebrating Mr. SD’s mom’s b-day this weekend, and I can’t wait to catch up with a ‘surprise’ out of town visiter.

Kimberlee, Thank you for visiting!
