I love being creative and I love color and how colors compliment each other. I enjoy making quality jewelry from semi-precious gemstones and pearls. I love the whole process of making jewelry, buying the gemstones, crystals ect. and then thinking about the best way to incorporate them into a design. It’s exciting and fun. ~ Patricia

Etsy Tuesday Rules:

Christmas Ornament Valance

To make this quick and easy ornament valance for my kitchen window, I used a tension rod, 13 ornaments, and a variety of holiday ribbons.  I really like how the ball ornaments reflect light and color in the window.  Another fun take on this would be to use some of your favorite tree decorations to decorate your window.  Or… maybe ornaments that are the same theme as your kitchen (i.e. roosters, cooking, fruits, etc.)!
From the outside, visitors can also see your holiday decor too!  I took to decorating this window because I can see it everyday walking to our home.  Plus, being out in the middle of farm country can be very windy.  So, outside decorations have to be limited to things that won’t bang on the siding or blow away the next time the wind decides to gust through.

I cut the ribbon is pieces from 16″ to 22″ long.  Tied them in a loop, ran one end of the loop through the ornament top and secured it, and then ran the loop over my tension rod and then popped the ornament through the other end of the loop.  Very quick and easy!  Here is a close-up of ribbons attached to the tension rod.  Once I am done with these ornaments all I have to do is unloop everything.  Since there are no knots to undo everything will be ready to put back up next year.

This project went very quickly (less than 45 minutes) and completely changed my kitchen from fall to winter.  Even better… Ms. Diva can’t investigate this decoration, LOL!
Check out how I created the “FALL” Garland here!

Gifts for Men – A Random, Funny Post

Gifts for Men
Buying gifts for men is not nearly as complicated as it is for women. Follow these rules and you should have no problems.
Rule #1:  When in doubt – buy him a cordless drill. It does not matter if he already has one. I have a friend who owns 17 and he has yet to complain. As a man, you can never have too many cordless drills.
No one knows why.
Rule #2:  If you cannot afford a cordless drill, buy him anything with the word ratchet or socket in it. Men love saying those two words. “Hey George, can I borrow your ratchet?” “OK. By-the-way, are you through with my 3/8-inch socket yet?”
Again, no one knows why.
Rule #3:  If you are really, really broke, buy him anything for his car, a 99 cent ice scraper, a small bottle of deicer or something to hang from his rear view mirror. Men love gifts for their cars.
No one knows why.
Rule #4:  Never buy men bathrobes. Once I was told that if God had wanted men to wear bathrobes, he wouldn’t have invented Jockey shorts.
Rule #5:  You can buy men new remote controls to replace the ones they have worn out. If you have a lot of money buy your man a big-screen TV with the little picture in the corner. Watch him go wild as he flips, and flips, and flips.
Rule #6:  Do not buy any man industrial-sized canisters of after-shave or deodorant. I’m told they do not stink – they are earthy.
Rule #7:  Buy men label makers. Almost as good as cordless drills. Within a couple of weeks there will be labels absolutely everywhere. “Socks. Shorts. Cups. saucers. Door. Lock. Sink.” You get the idea.
No one knows why.
Rule #8:  Never buy a man anything that says “some assembly required” on the box. It will ruin his Special Day and he will always have parts left over.
Rule #9:  Good places to shop for men include Northwest Iron Works, Parr Lumber, Home Depot, John Deere, Valley RV Center, and Les Schwab Tire. (NAPA Auto Parts and Sears Clearance Centers are also excellent men’s stores.) It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t know what it is. (“From NAPA Auto, eh? Must be something I need. Hey! Isn’t this a starter for a ’68 Ford Fairlane? Wow! thanks.”)

Rule #10:  Men enjoy danger. That’s why they never cook – but they will barbecue. Get him a monster barbecue with a 100-pound propane tank. Tell him the gas line leaks. “Oh the thrill! The challenge! Who wants a hamburger?”
Rule #11:  Tickets to a Cowboys game are a smart gift. However, he will not appreciate tickets to “A Retrospective of 19th Century Quilts.” Everyone knows why.
Rule #12:  Men love chainsaws. Never, ever, buy a man you love a chainsaw. If you don’t know why – please refer to Rule #7 and what happens when he gets a label maker.
Rule #13:  It’s hard to beat a really good wheelbarrow or an aluminum extension ladder. Never buy a real man a stepladder. It must be an extension ladder.
No one knows why.
Rule #14:  Rope. Men love rope. It takes us back to our cowboy origins, or at least The Boy Scouts. Nothing says love like a hundred feet of 3/8″ manila rope.
No one knows why.
~ Hope you got a laugh out of this like I did!
PS – If you are looking for a cordless drill… look at the black friday sales, get up and get in line, and you will have a fabulous gift for the man/men of your life.

Five Question Friday – 11/19/2010

1. What Christmas song do you loathe?  I absolutely loathe I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.  I don’t know why, but all the versions I seem to hear have an overly squeaky female singing it, and it just drives me nuts!
2. Do you and your significant other cuddle at night or sleep on opposite sides of the bed?  Opposite sides of the bed with our own covers.  We both like wrapping up in our blankets, and so separate blankets keeps the peace.
3. Have you ever had surgery?  I have had two major surgeries, and will be having a c-section in January since Ms. T is coming so close to Ms. Diva.
4. When do you typically have your holiday shopping done?  Normally I tend to be a last minute shopper, but this year I am actually getting it done ahead of time!
5. If money were not an issue (and you HAD to pick something), what would your ultimate luxury item be?  I want a house.  Lots of square footage.  Bought and paid for so I can stay-at-home and keep it clean and play with the kiddos.
Speaking of kiddos… here are a couple of photos from my last towel photo shot.  Can you guess what my biggest obstacle was?

In case you missed it… I made Ms. Diva a Lovie Blankie from an old silk shirt of mine, and minkie fabric she fell in love with at Joann’s.  Check out this short how-to of using a silk shirt for a blankie!
I also got the proof for a set of stamps I am getting from My Rubber Stamp.  What do you think?  Personally I am in love with it!!!!!!
